Gusta Johnson is a versatile and experienced actor, video editor, writer, singer, director, and animator based in NYC.
Born in Huntsville, Alabama, she moved around a lot during her childhood, living in Maine, Seattle, Los Angeles, North Carolina, and Massachusetts and was very happy to finally call New York her home.
She started acting when she was seven (although she did go up on her only line as one of the Three Blind Mice and she'll never live that down). After proving that the french horn, violin, and piano can sound absolutely terrible if she's allowed to play them, she finally started singing. Apparently she wasn't terrible at that instrument and ended up studying opera and musical theater for ten years. She attended the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, studying under Voice Chair Professor Elizabeth Hynes. After performing in both Seattle and LA, she finally moved to her dream city, New York and started taking improv classes because she figured she might as well put her inherent clumsiness to good use in comedy. She is currently enrolled in the Advanced Study Improv Program at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and had previously trained at The Groundlings School with former SNL cast member Michaela Watkins.
She is a founding member of the long-running all-lady indie improv team, Wicked City, which tours the country and has a monthly show at Under St. Marks. She has directed and written sketch shows that have premiered at the PIT and other theaters throughout NYC. She also writes, directs, edits, animates, and stars in her own comedy videos and has appeared in commercials, industrials, films, and has played with a baby tiger once (see picture above).
